Elderly Care: Helping You Deal With the Dying Process

Five Holistic Therapeutic Approaches To Rehabilitation

Julio Carr

Holistic rehabilitation is great for anyway going through the process of quitting drugs, alcohol, or a psychological problem, as such bipolar disorder. Here are five different therapeutic approaches to this:

  1. Eye Movement Desensitization: This is the process in which special eye movements are implemented to help the individual identify experiences that overwhelm their brain. This helps the individual understand when they are feeling overwhelmed, which often triggers psychological outbursts or the need for a drug.
  2. Hypnosis: Hypnosis is another holistic approach to rehabilitation. Hypnosis is basically providing the individual with a deep sense of relaxation that helps them control their consciousness in certain situations. Specific situations that trigger the individual will be used during the hypnosis process to help the person better cope with the situation should it arise in the future.
  3. Neuro-Linguistic Programming: This is done through a process of communication with a psychotherapist. Certain psychological issues are addressed that lead to a person relapsing in the future. The process of talking about it and learning about personal development helps the individual learn how to cope with situations in the future. This also helps a person see beyond their perceptions of reality that may be holding them back from bigger and better things in their life.
  4. Dialectic Behavior Therapy: This is a therapy that is used for those with mental health problems, such as bipolar disorder. This therapy is a form of cognitive psychotherapy in which the professional psychotherapist understands the triggering of mental health behaviors in order to re-train the person's mind to lead toward other, healthier alternatives. For example, it builds upon the individual's strengths to help them see beyond their weaknesses with mental health problems.
  5. Motivational Interview: Another common therapeutic approach is a motivational interview. This is when an individual discusses their goals in life, what motivates them, and how to make positive decisions. This helps this person find a better mindset in life that they can focus on in order to avoid the problem with mental health or drugs. Building up motivational speeches through the person's own words is a great way for that person to combat other feelings of anger, resentment, or depression.

When you are looking for holistic approaches to therapy, you can find all or some of these in a rehabilitation center. In some cases, these therapies are combined with traditional therapies in order to achieve better results. There are many cases in which individuals have success with this type of therapy because of the build up of self-esteem people often leave with.

About Me
Elderly Care: Helping You Deal With the Dying Process

As an elderly care worker, I have witnessed the deaths of many individuals. I have seen family members become angry, sad, and completely silent at the end. I have also seen individuals refuse to see family members out of denial. People deal with death in different ways, and the strong emotions are often unfamiliar and scary. If you have a parent or grandparent who is elderly, then I want to share with you what I know about end of life care and dying process. We are a society that does not talk about death, and this can cause great pain when a family member dies. Learn about the process and find out how to deal with your own emotions and how to love your family members at the end. If there is only a small amount of time left, then I want you to cherish the final moments.
